   Still under thirty in 1998, the Cockney upstart McQueen has often intentionally courted the limits of taste in fashion by using animal pieces, rotting fruit and images of ‘raped’ highland women, although at the 1998 London Fashion Week his collection showcased an equally arresting but far less provocative Joan of Arc figure. McQueen puts pointy shoulder pads and flared cuffs on otherwise straight suits, and uses human hair, rhinestones and snakeskin as adornments. He is currently working for the French fashion house Givenchy. In 1998, after exhibiting his Paris collection, McQueen won the prestigious contract to clothe the latest big-name British star in Hollywood, Kate Winslet, for her appearance at the Academy Awards ceremony, where awards were heaped on her film Titanic.
